An Orange Dream Smoothie & Happy Veterans Day!
I just wanted to start this blog with A Happy Veteran's Day! My husband served in the military for 10 years and I have a real love and appreciation to all of those who serve or have served in our military and of course to their wonderful families too. Thank-you!
TGIAF! We have almost made it through another week and to the weekend...Ya! I wanted to give you one of my all time favorite smoothie recipes. The kids and I love this. It really is good. Kind of dreamsicley (ugh is that a word? haha). I will usually double this recipe and split it between me and my two kids. The secret ingredient to making this recipe zing is the Kefir. If you haven't ever tried kefir you must run - not walk- to the nearest grocery store and buy some. This is a yogurty drink that is filled with wonderful probiotics. I love to mix this as the base of my smoothies for creamy, thick and delicious results. Now, if for some reason you cannot find kefir where you are you can replace this with just vanilla or strawberry organic yogurt. Many grocery stores do carry the kefir and I find the best price is at Trader Joe's. I also love coconut kefir! I prefer it acutally, but it is a little harder to find where I am. You will also want a really good quality protein powder. One that is not full of artificial ingredients and artificial sweeteners. OK so here is what you will need:
For one serving (You can double or triple this recipe)
8 oz. orange juice
1/2 cup Kefir * I always use the strawberry flavored or the coconut Kefir vanilla flavor will rock your face off too (or you can use organic yogurt
1 frozen banana
1 scoop of french vanilla protein powder
*One quick tip that I always do is to take my very ripe bananas and peel them and freeze them individually. I can just grab one or two out when I need them and they act as the ice making your smoothies thick and smoothie like. Also you will never waste your bananas again.
